2009, early March

Early March Tango decided to upgrade the mobile ADSL, but did not inform their customers. Lots of people got angry about this issue, because they got completely cut from internet access. Failed to connect. On Sunday 8 aroun noon, the connection was done, but with almost no speed in Luxembourg city.

digital TV by cable but no HD decoder

Eltrona and probably the other operators as well, sell a decoder to receive the new digitally encoded channels. The old ones will be disactivated till 2011.

BUT, that decoder costing something like 80 EUR is NOT HD compatible, meaning you have to buy a second decoder later, when HD is made available via their cables. No single decoder Digital AND HD is now available.

And, if you want to watch two or more different channels at the same time you need two or more decoders, one for each channel.

This info is not available on their website. You only can learn about this if you ask them.

Tango Tele 2 mobile ADSL has again a big issue with their network. Either you get NO connection

Or the connection is interrupted all the time. Almost impossible to download a complete email containing a picture.

Or the connection you have is VERY SLOW.

On their helpline, they can only tell you that someone is trying to fix the problem, but noone has an idea when it is done.

Nothing new with this provider.

If you have similar problems with this provider or any other provider, company in Luxembourg tell us your story at United People either in English, Français, Deutsch or Lëtzebuergesch. Your email will be deleted as soon as we have copied the text into our issue database. (unitedpeople@hologuides.com)

Communication : prepaid cards

We have learned that Tango Tele2 prepaid Pronto cards loose their value after 12 months of non-useage. At the Tango shop you are obliged to buy new credits (re-charge) to make it work again. That's a very good business model: first you have to pay for the service and then you are obliged to use it, otherwise your investment is gone. Strange...

Even stranger, they ask you at the hotline your phone number to open a 'dossier' ticket, but they know already the number you are calling from! Sounds like G. Orwell - 1984.

With Vox mobile PoP it even looks worse:
6 months for re-loads of 20€ - 50€
3 months for reloads of 10€ and 5€

mobile Internet - 3G / UMTS - Edge / HSDPA

provider Tango - Tele 2 [Web]
- the so called mobile ADSL has poor coverage and low speed (especially in the city of Luxembourg) even though they pretend it works everywhere in the capital... and, during evening hours 18:00 - 22:00 it works like a 56K modem if you can connect to the service... but oftenly you get an endless Failed to connect

If it works, for instance at the Luxembourg airport one has less than 1 Mb instead of the 7Mb maximum. Strange ?

Luxemburg is a very small country bordering Belgium, Germany and France.

Most people speak luxembourgish, german and french. The younger population speaks english too.

The taxes are low when compared to other countries of the EU - VAT: 15%

Energy, especially gazoline and diesel are very cheap - prices at ACL [Web]

Unfortunately also cigarettes and alcoholic beverages are very cheap.

Because of the low taxes many banks have a dependance in Luxemburg; but offer only private banking.
